I am attempting to make soap using a 3D contoured soap mold. I want something to be affixed to the top when finished. I know how to add items to soap when they are in a standard mold before they are set, but how to I accomplish this with a two-piece mold?
I believe when using a 3D mold, the outside surfaces are actually encased (not exposed) by the two-piece mold and not actually exposed until set. In other words, you pour the soap into two separate cavities and they are bound together until the soap sets. An example of what I am speaking about can be found at the following webite: http://www.herbalaccents.com/3dsoapmolds.htm

I have searched a few message boards and have seen a lot of people talking about whether or not to use Roebic (Lye) in cold process soap making. I still don’t have a definite YES or NO.
So if you have actually used this product and had good results, please reply to my question. Thanks : )

I am would like to start making soap as a hobby and I have made a few batches however I would really like to find one that doesn’t involve cocoanut oils or hard to find items such as that.
Does anyone know of a very basic recipe ( web address ) for bar soap that uses ingredients that I do not have to go to a specialty store for?
I am not interested in glycerine soaps either and I do have access to a local dairy farm.

So I can basiclly use any oil such as animal fats, olive oils etc in place of any oil in the recipes as long as it is the same amount??

That would be great.

I want to melt it down and add some fragrance/colour etc.

Can anyone tell me what would be nice? I’d like someone other than just ‘essential oils’, something a little different would be nice.

Any suggestions for bits to put in (maybe dessicated coconut with a coconut fragrance?).

How would I go about making a coconut fragrance? Or citrussy flavours are nice too.

Thanks!

I am a begginner… but I absolutely love, love, love it! I have always enjoyed bath products, soaps, etc. And making stuff, always have to be doing something. So occasionally I make my own soap, just with stuff around the house. But, I want to get more serious, buy a kit, what ever. Can any one recamend a good supplies shop that I could probably find locally? Any brand names, about how much will I have to pay for the basics. I have already done research and I figured I want to do melt and pour soap (hopefully one with goat milk) and keep it as natural as possible. What are some good ways to find cheap, but good stuff such as bases and essential oils. Just, any bits of wisedom would help. I already know the asic steps of soap making by the melt and pour method, BTW. Thanx!
Can anyone think of a class that might be offered locally?
This is for entertainment, not to be sold or anything.
Not just soaps, but also things like bubble bath, bath bombs, lip balm.

I am trying to get into the whole soap making thing, and I don’t know where to get fat. A butchers? A restaurant? I have all the other ingredients (Perfume, Lye, Glycerin, Coloring).
